Intermediate District 287, North Education Center
New Hope, Minnesota
The North Education Center supports learning programs for special education, alternative education, career training, early childhood and parenting education, and gifted and talented services.
A variety of spaces supports low student-teacher ratios. Quick access to breakout rooms, single-use restrooms and calming areas enable quick staff responses. Adjacencies are coordinated to support staff efficiency and necessary student program separations.
A highly customizable demountable wall system and unique grid design enables the district to easily change classroom spaces to adapt to ever-changing student needs. Finish materials offer the durability to withstand unusual wear and tear.
Hand-on learning spaces support independent living curriculum and vocational programs; a teaching kitchen; production lab to learn job skills, including computer tasks, printing, sorting and electronics assembly; art room; science lab; computer lab; student-run coffee shop; and school store.
High-performance design features support environmental responsibility and operational efficiency. A geothermal system provides low-cost heating and cooling. HVAC and lighting systems are controlled through the Internet. Efficient LED light fixtures create soothing environments and reduce “flicker.” A cutting-edge technology infrastructure supports integrated curriculum delivery and enhanced security.
