Indian Trail Elementary School
Canal Winchester, Ohio
Designing the interior of this elementary school meant creating a child-friendly environment that would comfortably house 1,000 K-3 students, provide a sense of community and security, and enhance each child’s learning experience.
The two-story building has a central core that separates K-1 from grades 2-3. It uses a familiar theme of circles, squares and triangles throughout the architecture, interior layout, floor patterns and finishes. A sophisticated color palette emphasizes fun and function. Color coding from floor to floor and wing to wing creates a sense of identification for each grade level. Oversized windows flood the building with natural light.
Every classroom shares a teacher workspace/tutoring room for individual student tutoring or small-group learning sessions.
