Howell Township Elementary Schools #1 and #2, and Middle School
Howell Township, New Jersey
Howell Township School District was facing a situation occurring in many school districts—strong growth and expanding educational programs. The resulting school designs combine the district’s educational philosophy with high-performance/sustainable design.
The new elementary schools and middle school will have non-toxic finishes, low-flush fixtures, a proposed rainwater-catchment system, materials and resource conservation with the use of high- recycled-content building materials, high-efficiency “regenerative dual-duct” HVAC system and a high-efficiency building envelope, including R-21 insulation and RR-30 roof systems.
The benefits of high-performance design create an environment that will encourage better student attendance and performance on language and math tests; energy and operation costs savings; and the ability to use the building as a teaching tool. Incorporating these elements ensures a commitment to teaching and learning in healthy, safe and sustainable facilities.
