Homewood Flossmoor Community High School, TV and Radio Studio Remodeling
Flossmoor, Illinois
This design, featuring school-inspired colors and a mural wall that celebrates departmental milestones, showcases the collaborative nature of the TV/radio studio program. Students work together using state-of- the-art digital TV and radio production equipment.
The space includes two classrooms, multiple editing suites, a television studio with control room, green room and makeup, a radio studio with announcing booth and private sound booth, and offices and conference rooms.
Behind the new broadcasting desk is an electric glass privacy wall, enabling visitors to view the inner workings of production during rehearsals, while keeping them out of shots during filming. For flexibility, the desk features movable curtains and a retractable green screen to allow multiple possibilities when filming. More green and white screens and curtains on set provide even greater flexibility and indulgence of student creativity.
Acoustics were important. Cork flooring and perforated wood ceiling tiles reduce noise in the open public spaces; all walls, ceilings, ductwork, doors and windows were treated to provide sound isolation within the editing and studio spaces.
