Focusing on providing a healthful learning environment at a modest cost, Holmes Park Elementary is the first LEED-registered school for the Sapulpa Public School District, and one of only a handful in the state.

The architect conceptualized the school as a bridge to the community. The tall gallery, illuminated via clerestory windows, connects 39 classrooms and connects to the community through an art installation inspired by locally produced Frankoma pottery.

The length of the building runs east to west to minimize heat gain and maximize daylight for the classrooms. The ground-source geothermal system is highly efficient, resulting in low operating costs and reduced need for exterior and interior equipment space. Additional sustainable measures include low-flow fixtures, occupancy sensor lighting controls, and specification of low-emitting materials.

The site features also connect the school to the community. The historic stone Holmes Park Gate was moved and repurposed into the playground. A walking path along the property line connects to trails on the site that are met by bicycle racks at the front entry.
