Hockinson High School

After years as the largest school district in Washington state without a high school, the community of Hockinson overwhelmingly supported a resolution to provide secondary education for its youth. It was essential to the community that the resulting 135,000-square-foot facility provide educational and recreational opportunities for all community members.
The school has a community room with a performance platform and foldout auditorium seating, and a gymnasium with an 1,800-person seating capacity and indoor running track. The library boasts a view of Mount St. Helens, and is open on evenings and weekends for the public. These features are in addition to a vocational/technology center, science classrooms, computer labs and general-use classrooms.
The school was designed for an opening capacity of 1,400 students, but core facilities such as the commons, gym and kitchen were sized for a school of 1,800 students. The district can expand the building’s capacity by constructing a new classroom wing.
