Hilbert College is an independent college located on 40 acres of beautifully appointed landscape in Hamburg, N.Y. Originally a training school for the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph, the college now offers four-year and two-year degrees. The new student-services center was named Franciscan Hall to celebrate Hilbert’s Franciscan heritage.
As part of its commitment to students, the college embarked upon this project to design and build a new student services center. Sister Edmunette Paczesny, President of Hilbert College stated, “With the addition of this facility, we at Hilbert will be able to serve the students and the community with even greater efficiency and effectiveness.”
The building was designed to take advantage of the countrylike environment surrounding the campus. The intent was to provide a view for every space in the building. This would enable prospective students to receive a brief tour of the campus from inside the building.
The college has utilized the atrium area with its stunning view of the pond for a variety of formal events. A major design objective was to provide panoramic views taking advantage of the natural beauty of the campus.
