Harvard University, Alumni Affairs and Development Building, Conference Room
Cambridge, Massachusetts
Harvard University’s alumni affairs conference room is a state-of-the-art space providing the capability for teleconferences and video-assisted conferences for up to 35 people. It is situated centrally in the Alumni Affairs and Development Building in what had been a computer server room.
The major challenge facing the team was to create an acoustically engineered room that would perform to the standards required for audio and videoconferencing. At the same time, the space needed to have an elegant appearance. The room’s mechanical system was specified and installed carefully to virtually eliminate airborne and mechanical noise.
Paintable acoustic wall panels with integrated picture and chair rails provide necessary sound absorption, and allow for the installation of rotating artwork and the uniform appearance of the walls of the room.
Furnishings were chosen to allow for various table and seating configurations so the room can accommodate small or large groups. A small built-in counter and cabinets allow for storage and coffee or beverage service.
By all accounts, the room succeeded both as the heart of the Alumni Affairs and Development Office and the video/audio center.
