This highly complex project restructured the entire Goose Creek High School campus and provided much needed classroom space and a new building identity. Along with capacity relief and updated interiors, the improvements create a focal promenade in order to connect the parking at the front of the school to the athletic facilities and fields.
The new classroom wing features an outdoor quad that is contained; this provides increased security for students. A phased plan that used “swing space” enabled the demolition of existing facilities to occur without resorting to portable classrooms, resulting in a savings of more than $800,000.
All construction was completed while school was in session; the design team provided egress and life safety plans to ensure that students, faculty, staff and visitors were protected throughout the two-year construction process.
