Galen College of Nursing, Tampa Bay Campus

The Tampa Bay Campus is part of a strategic design partnership with Galen College of Nursing to establish a strong, consistent and forward-thinking brand as the growing college seeks to create a higher education campus student experience throughout its many campuses across the United States. The challenge for this facility was to transform an aging corporate office building into an innovative learning environment with a campus-like feel to attract new students and enhance the learning experience of existing students, creating a space where they want to be.

With a central atrium dividing the existing three-story building into two wings, it was necessary to create continuity throughout the floors and organize the program so that activities and spaces would facilitate interaction and collaboration. Capitalizing on the natural light exposures of the building, design features include “in between” collaborative spaces, flexible classrooms, open-office faculty suites, realistic clinical learning labs, and a simulation center. Various settings were provided throughout the facility to offer places for different personality types and activities: group work, individual quiet study, and active learning.
