Felician University, Education Commons
Rutherford, New Jersey
The new Education Commons at Felician University was realized from the gut renovation of a 30,000-square-foot building that had lain dormant for many years.
Rehabilitating the facility required combining campus library and nursing functions and creating harmonious sightlines and pathways, all in a contemporary image that reflects the forward direction of the university
The Education Commons now houses a high-tech library and research center, as well as a nursing resource and simulation center.
The library contains a variety of student-focused amenities such as study rooms, 24-hour computer labs, lounges, a café, and conference spaces. It also houses the Toron Library collection of more than 10,000 volumes for use in student curriculum.
The nursing center is a state-of-the-art facility that features hospital equipment to replicate a nursing unit as well as simulation and testing rooms to provide a variety of professional training exercises.
The unique arrangement of spaces for the technology and nursing areas enables students to interact freely, yet focus on their respective studies when desired.
