Faye Webb Elementary School
Corpus Christi, Texas
Faye Webb Elementary School is the second use of this prototype elementary school design for Corpus Christi Independent School District. The school is designed to accommodate 800 students in pre-K through fifth grade.
A “Main Street,” which serves as an organizing axis, separates the educational spaces from the common-use spaces. The Main Street is intersected on one side by three corridors, which provide access to the classrooms. Each wing has everything needed to support the designated grade levels.
The common-use spaces, on the other side of Main Street, can be closed off from the rest of the school for after-hours use. The media center, discovery zone and administrative offices are situated at the main entrance for easy access.
The building envelope and mechanical systems were designed for optimum energy efficiency. Daylighting is incorporated into Main Street with clerestories on the northeast exposure for the best lighting effect and energy efficiency. Daylighting also is incorporated into corridors and classrooms via skylights.
