Effingham College & Career Academy
Springfield, Georgia
Tying together modernist aesthetics and LEED design philosophy, the Effingham College & Career Academy bridges the gap between high school and post-secondary education. A joint effort of the Effingham County School System and Savannah Technical College, via the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG), the design aimed to complement the scale of the college’s existing building on the site, creating a cohesive campus.
Effingham College & Career Academy is a 44,000-square-foot Minimalist building that was the first school in the region to obtain LEED gold certification. The facade marries stone and glass to create a sleek and modern impact, and open-air courtyards off the commons provide student accessibility.
Tenth- through 12th-grade vocational students attend specialized programs with state-of-the-art labs and classrooms for each, along with a student-run merchandizing store and bistro. The commons boasts 24-foot-high ceilings, polished concrete and floor-to-ceiling paned-glass walls, providing an ideal space for community events.
