East Lincoln Elementary School

The original East Lincoln Elementary school was built in 1942 in Tullahoma, Tenn., with only one addition—a gymnasium—in 1988. The new East Lincoln Elementary was built on the same site just behind the original building while students were completing their last year in the old facility. Once the new construction was complete, along with a connecting corridor to the 1988 gymnasium, the 1942 building was demolished and the site reworked as open lawn, parking and separate drives for car and bus traffic. The project was designed to achieve LEED gold certification.

To maximize construction efficiency, the structure incorporates load-bearing masonry walls in most areas; the cafeteria, kitchen, art and music rooms were designed as a pre-engineered metal building. The exterior masonry and metal roof connect the entire building visually and create the look of one unified campus.

The geothermal HVAC system complements the sophisticated lighting and occupancy controls to provide a building that is both easy to maintain and inexpensive to operate.
