Delaware Technical Community College, Center for Energy Education and Training
Dover, Delaware
The Center for Energy Education and Training (CEET) facility provides learning space for the new Energy Management Academic program. The LEED platinum facility is dedicated to the instruction of renewable-energy technologies, energy conservation and green building practices.
The building is situated at a prominent intersection of the campus, and it became clear early on to the charrette team that beautifying this intersection should be a high priority. An additional goal was to showcase the sustainable technologies that are the focus of the building’s curriculum. Sustainable features such as wind turbines, photovoltaic panels and a native plantings “living wall” were organized in a manner that simultaneously screens an existing service access area while giving CEET its own identity. The result is a welcoming campus entry that is enhanced by a richly detailed building, expressing the college’s commitment to technology and sustainability.
The project consists of two state-of-the-art classrooms, three interactive labs, a distance-learning lecture room and a multipurpose space. The center will provide students with a hands-on learning environment, which demonstrates the latest in sustainable energy technology.
