The Cuesta College North County Campus Master Plan is an update to the 1999 North County Campus Facilities Master Plan and a supporting document to the San Luis Obispo Community College District 2011-2016 Education Master Plan, which guides the 2011-2021 Facilities Master Plan.

Three phases of planning process:

• Contextualize – Confirm academic objectives, existing data, and future programming needs.

• Visualize – Develop site concept plan, building development plan, and design guidelines.

• Validate – Finalize development plan and phasing, develop cost guidelines.

The master plan features a series of interlocking quads, maintaining the existing building layout and creating a new campus core. The plan maintains visual character of the rolling plain of land and continues the mission and rancheros inspiration of the rural setting. Challenges and primary goals included creating a clearly identifiable front door (resolved by the Campus Center siting) and intuitive, pedestrian-friendly circulation and wayfinding. The plan’s framework leads to a central core, creating a hierarchy of open spaces, allowing for efficient, incremental growth of buildings that have been phased to support program needs/replacement facilities.
