Crisp County Primary School in Cordele, Ga., was designed to provide the district’s youngest students with the most environmentally conscious facility in the area. This classically proportioned pre-K-3 school earned LEED certification by incorporating regional and recycled materials with energy efficient mechanical and lighting systems.

The exterior features an arcade of paired Doric columns, pilasters, arched windows, and porticos accentuating the classroom wings. An impressive rotunda in the main commons captures the attention from the outside and continues creating visual interest from within with the use of crisp white coffering and dramatic lighting.

A powerful central axis is highlighted with interior brickwork, clerestory lighting and the recurrence of paired columns. The hallways and commons feature serene grays and tranquil blues, a distinct counterpoint to the cafeteria and media center. The cafeteria bursts with color and dimension. Ceiling lighting in brightly hued "clouds" and soffits curves along the perimeter. The media center is an unexpected mix of lime green and turquoise with metallic Mirroflex along the circulation areas.

The play yards were designed with dual surfaces of rubber mulch and handicap-accessible rubber tiles.
