Concordia University of Wisconsin, Coburg Residence Hall
Mequon, Wisconsin
Coburg Hall, a five-story, 357-bed lifestyle facility along the Lake Michigan shoreline, brings enhanced student-living quarters to Concordia University.
Coburg Hall serves as a "live and learn" residential facility incorporating classrooms, office space, computer labs, social lounges and laundry facilities. The university envisions a campus where students and community get together to learn in a more collaborative setting, creating adaptable and flexible spaces, and supporting more meaningful relationships among faculty and students. Two-story lounge spaces with fireplaces, wireless study rooms, centralized kitchenettes and green roof patios enhance the college experience and create a greater sense of belonging.
A high-performance cost-effective envelope utilizing LEED guidelines minimized energy consumption, reduced mechanical equipment size, and lowered life-cycle maintenance and operational costs. Insulated low-e glazing, operable windows with motorized blinds, and exterior shading devices flood the interior with light and expansive views of Lake Michigan.
The project enabled Concordia University to introduce suite-style housing constructed at a competitive cost less than the national average.
