Clover Garden School
Burlington, North Carolina
This rural site outside Burlington, North Carolina, provides a naturally beautiful setting for a new high school campus. Capable of accommodating 450 students, the two-story design boasts state-of-the-art technology throughout its classrooms, laboratories, dance, art, and band areas, as well as administrative spaces.
One of the architect’s goals was to create a sense of transparency for students, staff, and visitors by enabling them to enjoy different views of the property through large glass windows as they walk down main corridors. The stadium seating in the commons area offers opportunities for students and faculty to interact with one another between classes. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide a spectacular view of the rear courtyard.
Interior design elements and finishes were curated to create smaller, more intimate gathering spaces, enhance wayfinding, and create a variety of different visual experiences throughout the building. The exterior, clad in masonry, metal, and composite wood panels, was intricately detailed to project the school’s growing brand, values, and presence in the community.
