Cleveland Metropolitan School District, Halle PK-8
Cleveland, Ohio
A key goal of this neighborhood revitalization project was creating an inquiry-based learning environment with purposeful integration of common areas that serve both students and the community. The new three-story Halle PK-8 School was the result of collaboration among the design team, the surrounding neighbors, and the Halle school community.
From the moment students, staff, visitors, and community enter, they are embraced by a mural that celebrates their city, and where the sun is always shining – no matter the Cleveland weather outside. Integrated display cases showcase the outstanding work and programs produced by students.
Academic spaces with operable partitions link classrooms, and Extended Learning Areas on each floor promote student collaboration. Group spaces such the gymnasium and student dining support the academic curriculum as well as being open to community use after hours. The media center is designed to spark imagination, whether pulling a book from the shelf and moving to the reading corner or collaborating on a group project.
