Construction for the Cathedral High School gymnasium and science building in Los Angeles was completed in November 2007. The architect was asked to embellish on the school’s existing traditional Italian Baroque architectural style not only to maintain, but also to enhance the school’s traditional character.
This landmark project symbolizes a new era of progression for the school. The new gymnasium and science building consists of two stories of high-tech classrooms; a full gymnasium; a sub-terrain floor that houses home and visitor locker rooms; and a fully equipped athletic facility. The second floor boasts an alumni room where meals can be served and an observation balcony overlooking the skyline of downtown Los Angeles.
Taking into account the school’s history in the design, the architect wanted its work to bring a “sense of permanency” to the campus and ultimately to emphasize its family-oriented tradition.
