Carnegie Mellon University, Posner Hall
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Carnegie Mellon University’s Graduate School of Industrial Administration (GSIA) is home to a rapidly developing executive business education program. The Carnegie Bosch Institute for Applied Studies in International Management (CBI) required a third-floor addition to accommodate a growing number of faculty and executive students. In support of CBI’s mission of educating industry leaders on international management and global cooperation, the design of the collaborative areas on the new floor of Posner Hall became integral to the project’s success.
The primary program elements include areas that encourage spontaneous collaboration among faculty and executives, including a glass bridge/meeting area, multipurpose room and informal seating areas; individual offices, office suites and conference rooms to support resident and visiting faculty; a Work Processing Center to support word-processing and copy needs; and a CBI office suite and executive-education spaces, including a tiered classroom, breakrooms and an executive lounge.
The project has provided shared space that encourages faculty and executives to discuss research, grants and other opportunities that take GSIA’s programs beyond the school’s physical boundaries.
