California State University—San Bernardino, College of Education Building
San Bernardino, California
The university’s College of Education was operating out of several buildings. The challenge was to provide a center that brought the programs and functions together in one state-of-the-art facility. Moreover, it was important to create a home that was large enough to house the entire college while remaining architecturally pleasing, environmentally smart and energy efficient.
Despite being situated in desert terrain, most of the campus is blanketed by lush green lawns and shrubs in a beautiful park-like setting. As a means of expanding sustainable site concepts, the landscaping of the new College of Education building features lavenders and other perennial flora that promote the region’s natural desert habitat.
The 130,000-square-foot, three-story structure also expresses the College of Education’s presence uniquely, energizes the university, and provides a new home to future educators.
The College of Education building is the place where brilliant minds are equipped to educate the leaders of tomorrow—the place where students become teachers.
