San Bernardino City Unified School District’s renovated Performing Arts Center at Cajon High School is a modern installment designed to reflect the district’s commitment to linked learning and multiuse spaces.

Built in the 1960s, the theater needed a major makeover that complemented the brilliant level of talent at Cajon High School. Renovations begin with a bold, separated façade leading into an expanded lobby flanked by two vestibules.

Catwalk lighting positions above the ceiling were reworked to provide improved stage lighting and access for students. Catwalks were lowered and converted from crawl spaces so students could use them safely.

The pipe grid over the stage was replaced by state-of-the-art rigging and theatrical lighting to provide students with tangible industry experience. Behind the curtains, an enhanced service yard provides ample space for building sets and hosting classes. While other districts are cutting arts to save funds, San Bernardino is working to adequately prepare students planning on entering the collegiate or professional level of theater production.
