The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Central School District is one of the top performing school districts in the Greater Capital Region of New York State. Mosaic Associates worked with a forward-thinking learning community focused on student empowerment and the district to realize the vision of incorporating a maker space into the high school.

The design created a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) addition along with a new inviting lobby area. On the exterior, the generous use of glass creates an attractive, welcoming face for the new facility.

Inside, disparate disciplines are brought together in an open, collaborative learning environment that supports student exploration and prototyping of their ideas. A central, shared technology classroom and breakout space is surrounded by project-based labs for interdisciplinary learning in materials processing, CNC/metals, robotics and STEAM fabrication.

Across the hall is a suite of art studios, including a digital arts computer lab. Upstairs, large learning studios provide project-based learning space for computer science, career and technical education, and mathematics.
