Buckhorn Creek Elementary School
Holly Springs, North Carolina
Opened in 2018 in Holly Springs, North Carolina, Buckhorn Creek Elementary School is an iteration of Moseley Architects’ widely used E-plan prototype. In this instance, the design was updated at the request of the Wake County School System to prioritize collaboration and group learning with the inclusion of new learning commons spaces (totaling nearly 10,000 square feet) at the end of each classroom wing corridor.
Each learning commons space is accessible by six surrounding classrooms, and movable glass walls let classroom activities and group learning spill out. The school provides an inviting 21st-century learning environment that is in line with modern educational trends. It fosters an atmosphere of collaboration and flexibility. The project’s success led to the district’s selecting the E-plan for another project, the new Barton Pond Elementary School.
