British International School of Houston
Houston, Texas
British International School of Houston (BISH) collaborates with premium organizations such as MIT and The Julliard School to deliver exceptional education. With the design of its Houston campus, BISH has a dynamic new partner — the building.
A second-floor research commons called the Agora is the beating heart of the school’s MIT-inspired STEAM curriculum. Nearby maker spaces, science laboratories and a design technology center provide opportunities for hands-on problem solving. Specialized areas such as the Early Years Center and the International Baccalaureate Center support students at all phases of development. All BISH classrooms have glazing on 50 percent of all surfaces to provide exceptional transparency and visual connectivity throughout campus.
BISH has a focus on educating the whole child. A Performing Arts Center supports curriculum designed in collaboration with The Julliard School, and an aquatics center and outdoor sports fields serve the school and community.
Since the campus opened in 2016, teachers and students have praised their new partner in learning. Principal Andrew Derry calls BISH “the most pedagogically advanced school building in the world.”
