Bridgewater College, Kline Campus Center Renovation
Bridgewater, Virginia
The architect was tasked with assisting Bridgewater College in creating a welcoming and collaborative space for its outdated Student Center. Renovations on the ground floor included a new Student Life Suite, a student commons area, restrooms, and the Eagle’s Nest. The old bookstore was reimagined into a new campus store with a focus on Bridgewater merchandise. The original post office was re-created to minimize the footprint and outfitted with a new mail system and digital lockers for packages.
Students identified specific needs for the Student Life suite, including a new faculty conference room with technology and a glitter and glue room for student activities and clubs, which required unique storage solutions and durable yet attractive materials. The design carves out a second back entrance for the counseling suite to protect privacy for students.
The second-floor lounge renovation was added about halfway through the initial project. It features all new finishes, including acoustical treatments and window coverings to filter light.
