Situated on the second floor of the addition, the new chemistry labs feature state-of-the art facilities.

The university wanted to provide students with facilities that rival any other undergraduate program in the nation. The new organic chemistry lab and general lab offer more workspace, greater storage capacity and easily accessible safety stations. Along with adjustable snorkel hoods at every work station, the labs also feature large windows and chemical-resistant sheet flooring.

The department maintains some of the most modern equipment available at any undergraduate program in the nation. The instruments are for student use in laboratories and research, giving Briar Cliff’s chemistry undergrads valuable, hands-on experience: a gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GCMS) system, Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometer, Perkin-Elmer UV-Visible spectrophotometer, High Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) System and High Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) System.
