Bergen County Technical Schools-Teterboro, Aerospace Classroom
Teterboro, New Jersey
LAN Associates was tasked with converting an outdated autobody shop into a state-of-the-art aerospace classroom. The space has an engineering lab, assembly studio, and prototype workshop that follow the “design thinking” process from early concepts to working models.
Flexibility throughout the spaces was key, as the ever-evolving machinery has different requirements, and technology further integrates into designs. To meet these specific needs, the design includes large butcherblock surfaces, overhead cord reels, compressed air, and dust collection combined with whiteboard writing surfaces, TV displays, and tablet docking stations. The renovated space provides opportunities for large, collaborative builds, as well as solo workstations for smaller independent projects.
Because the project site is directly across from an airport, it was imperative to connect to its historical roots. Imagery from early airplanes and significant moments can be found throughout. Indoor air quality also was a concern. Each mechanical unit uses the highest-quality filtration system to keep out any contaminants or harmful gases from aircrafts.
