Bay Path University, Philip H. Ryan Health Science Center
East Longmeadow, Massachusetts
The Philip H. Ryan Health Science Center is a two-story, steel frame structure designed and built to serve the needs of students enrolled in master’s degree programs in Occupational Therapy and Physician Assistant Studies. The Center includes 10,000 square feet of space that has been left unfinished to accommodate academic programs in health sciences at a future date.
The Center is about four miles from the university’s main campus. Because of this, the plan included a mandate that students get the “full campus experience” while at the center. To achieve this, the center includes spacious common areas for both formal group study and informal study, comfortable seating options for short-term breaks between classes or for longer durations, a café serving breakfast and lunch, a self-service kitchen/vending area for those students who choose to “brown bag” it, a library resource room, and a room for wellness activities.
The architect and interior designer created a contemporary, professional academic learning environment well suited for graduate students preparing to enter high-demand professions in the field of health science.
