Ball State University’s David Letterman Communication and Media Building is the new entrance to a multi-building complex that expands and elevates the award-winning telecommunication programs at the university. It supports three outstanding departments: communication study, journalism and telecommunications. The 89,000-square-foot building also houses the Center for Information and Communication Sciences and the Center for Media Design, which has achieved a national reputation for communication research.
Named for David Letterman, the university’s most prominent graduate and host of “The Late Show with David Letterman,” the environmentally conscious building provides academic classrooms, technology-rich studios, edit suites and office/administrative spaces. With digital-screening rooms that rival Hollywood’s best, the Letterman Building provides a premier communications educational
experience.
The dramatic central atrium, which is aligned perfectly on an east-west axis with the Shafer Bell Tower, runs the entire length of the building. In addition to providing the main circulation path and formal entry point, this large, light-filled space allows natural light to penetrate deep into the heart of the building. The lobby and atrium allow students to navigate all levels of the multi-building complex easily.
