Anna Maria College, Mondor-Eagan Library / Information Commons
Paxton, Massachusetts
Anna Maria College hired Gorman Richardson Lewis Architects to transform the school’s outdated 20,000-square-foot library facility into a two-floor "library and information commons," providing a true learning pavilion that serves as a campus hub where students can collaborate, work independently, attend events, hold meetings or conduct research. The first floor consists of open computing, meeting spaces and classrooms, while the traditional library area with book stacks and periodicals is located on the lower level. The new Information Commons also serves to elevate the college’s standing among other academic institutions in central Massachusetts and is an important asset in attracting potential students and engaging alumni.
Project features:
• New open computing stations, an expanded IT help desk, media rooms, MIDI labs, conferencing areas, and faculty office space
• Ribbon fireplace and configurable lounge seating
• Movable racking system for books and periodicals that can be compressed or expanded to accommodate groups of various sizes at basement level
• A bright, modern primary color palette throughout
Specific building improvements:
• New HVAC system
• Increased daylighting and views via the opening of limited portions of the exterior north wall
• New automatic fire detection/alarm system
