Plaza Verde is a new generation of residence-life housing designed to provide staff and students with the ability to create as many as 18 different unit configurations from one standardized 1,200-square-foot “flex unit.” Through interactive online software, students and parents can select their housing configuration virtually and receive immediate price-point feedback. Coupled with the university staff’s use of building information modeling software, the housing registration/selection reduces residence life’s staff workload significantly.

The planning concept called for Plaza Verde Residence Hall to expand the existing campus mall an additional 50 feet in width to create “The Street,” an activity-filled plaza with mixed-use retail on the ground floor complemented with student housing on the second and third floors above.

Plaza Verde is designed to create community at all levels. It surrounds a “quad” that resulted from the redevelopment of existing parking areas and the closing of internal streets adjacent to the residence hall.

Plaza Verde Residence Hall was designed as a LEED gold facility; numerous design innovation credits are being sought for a green roof, rainwater harvesting and grey-water recycling.
