As part of an earlier bond program, the district wanted to construct a new swimming pool facility as the central element of its middle school and athletic complex.
This 24,000-square-foot, freestanding facility evolved from the desire to include aquatic programs in the district’s educational and athletic curriculums, and expand into community swimming and fitness programs.
The pool configuration provides for all aquatic programs, including high school competitive swimming, and youth and community swimming. The zero-depth entrance ramp provides easy access for both handicapped users and senior adults.
The interior includes spectator seating, a fitness/training room, staff offices and dressing rooms, locker rooms, a nautical shop and a multipurpose/community room. The red, white and blue colors are carried throughout the interior in an effort to emphasize the building’s nautical theme, while the vibrant red and white colors reflect the school colors.
Stars, stripes and wave patterns are integrated into the floor patterns to create an energetic interior. Red mosaic tiles form depth markings and signage along the pool deck.
