The architect provided design and construction administration services for the interior renovation of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College’s (ABAC) Donaldson Dining Hall, the college’s only cafeteria space. Because the college has no student union, the challenge was both to provide updated dining facilities and to create a meeting/gathering space for students. ABAC felt that creating a space with a big “wow” factor would attract new students, better provide for current students and make it more competitive with larger colleges.

The new interior design features distinct seating sections, which enable students to choose the type of dining experience they prefer: casual, private, group, etc. By incorporating two raised platforms, the renovation creates a new lounge-type experience, giving students the feel of a student union. The food-service areas were renovated to reorganize the serving areas into a more efficient floor plan, as well as to refurbish finishes.

The design integrates the school’s logo in various places, such as a central ceiling cloud and an acrylic panel wall display.
