A.D. Harvey Elementary School

The new A.D. Harvey Elementary School in Kingsville, Texas, nearly footprints the old school site of 1950. The 60-year-old live oak trees west of the old school remain to the west of the new school.
A historic downtown 1904 train station depot inspired the design of the new elementary school. The pre-K to 4 school has 37 classrooms, including a computer lab, science lab, three self-contained educational units, a library with a tiered-seating reading area, an advanced reading store in the library that offers reading incentives to students, a cafetorium with a stage and kitchen, and a multipurpose covered play area. The school incorporates a state-of-the-art computer data capacity system, voice-over IP telephone system, intercom, fire alarm, video security system and door-access control system.
The site offers separate bus and vehicular traffic to separate parents from buses and provide added security measures. Throughout the design there are pyramid-shaped skylights where four classrooms come together, as well as a skylight that reaches across the school north to south.
