This project represents a new design program that departs from the district’s previous standards. The program maintains a core academic arrangement and expands the exploratory nature of specific educational programs. Tight organization makes the school understandable to students. The central, semi-circular courtyard is flanked by three independent wings of the school, one for each grade level. Each wing is based on an academic pod that is further sub-divided into two teams, forming a school-within-a-school. The courtyard provides outdoor education and amphitheater space.

The exploratory avenue links each end of the semi-circular courtyard and groups the exploratory areas (art, language, music) in a single location in the school’s central portion.

The wedge links two of the largest volume spaces (gym, media center) into one distinct form. The gym space forms the outer edge of the wedge. The media center anchors the inner end.

Within the site, architects master-planned a high school and athletic complex.
