Del Valle High School had outgrown its existing athletic facilities; spaces were ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONCAPACITY580COST PER SQ FT$196.00FEATURED IN2018 Architectural PortfolioSUB CATEGORYSports Stadiums/Athletic Facilities with limited student access, weight facilities were housed outside, and offices were in closets or makeshift rooms. The school had no means to showcase athletic achievements, further limiting student engagement and school legacy.
This new, collegiate-level facility creates a bold image for the school. It epitomizes the Del Valle athlete, reinforces the district’s core values and strengthens students’ connections to the school.
The design organizes buildings around the existing football field to create entries into the complex. It also enhances the family and spectator experience by taking advantage of the site’s north natural slope with an end-zone park. The public lobby and reception area celebrate athletic program accomplishments, and behind the walls is an advanced facility that engages student-athletes, coaches, and support staff.
New facilities include an 80-by-60-yard indoor practice field, a state-of-the-art weight room, boys’ and girls’ locker rooms, a training room, hot and cold hydropools, a team video room, offices for coaches and staff, and new concessions and restrooms.
