Little Prairie Primary School is a state-of-the-art building that enables students and teachers to explore their creative potential in a hands-on environment.
Design choices echo a “nature” theme; a color palette of yellow, green, teal, and blue represents elements (sun, grass, water, and sky). The yellow wing was designed with the school’s youngest learners in mind, housing early childhood and 4K. The other wings each contain classrooms for 5K to second grade. These multigrade wings were created to build a sense of community and support personalized learning. Glazed alcoves are found throughout and provide additional collaboration space. Soffits and flexible furniture help define these spaces.
At the center of the school is the “Town Square,” which houses the cafeteria and provides access to specialized environments such as the Instructional Media Center and the nation’s first SmartLab for primary learners. Here, students explore STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) through project-based learning. The Town Square also features an interactive tree to facilitate exploratory learning.
These unique spaces help support the district’s goal of competency-based learning.
