To provide facilities for these generalized programs on a campus that opened five years ago, the college constructed a general academic building that includes an 18,500-square-foot lab classroom building and an 11,000-square-foot outbuilding shared by vet tech and agriculture. The buildings are designed to effectively balance the unique needs of both degree programs with indoor and outdoor spaces that include classrooms, labs, animal wards, small and large animal treatment and surgery areas, a tractor maintenance bay, crop washing and storage spaces, multipurpose rooms, and kitchens. The project also includes permanent pasture land, orchard space and a rotational crop field to support the weekly student-led and -harvested farmer’s market.
Targeting LEED Silver certification, ACC Elgin Campus Phase II showcases education in an innovative and inspiring way by making education transparent and accessible, and encouraging collaboration throughout.
