Located adjacent to the existing Callaway Science Building, the new, 43,000-square-foot Ida Callaway Hudson Lab Sciences Building provides lab space ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONCAPACITY850COST PER SQ FT$270.00FEATURED IN2018 Architectural PortfolioSUB CATEGORYSpecialized biology, mathematics, physics, and chemisty, and general teaching spaces for primarily undergraduate students. A key feature is the sandbox lab, open to all faculty and students for semester-long research projects.
The project also included renovation of 23,000 square feet of the Callaway Science Building to provide additional classrooms, lab space, faculty/departmental administrative offices and meeting spaces for physics and mathematics. Both buildings demonstrate the concept of “science on display.” All of the labs are designed to be highly visible from public spaces to promote engagement and interaction.
The new building is linear and set back from the street to allow space for a building entrance and courtyard in keeping with several smaller quadrangles throughout campus. Strategically sited along indoor and outdoor circulation routes, the facility includes informal spaces that help foster social interaction between students and faculty. Serving as a gateway to campus, the structure expresses the importance of the sciences to LaGrange College and the local community.
