Fairfield City Schools tasked the design team with delivering a new Freshman School that has a progressive learning environment centered on personalized learning in both group and individual settings for 850 freshman students.

The east end of the commons contains a learning stair that has proven extremely popular not only for formal presentations, but also for informal meetings between periods, a seating option for lunch, and a place to plug in at an intermission.
A sense of history was important to the district; the design integrated as many historical artifacts as possible. The most dynamic is a wall sculpture created out of 300 bent plywood seat-backs from the now demolished original freshman building.
