Our team designed an expansion for the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri’s headquarters, the Berges Family Girl Scouts Program Center. The facility invites girls of all ages, demographics, and skill levels to interact, ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONCAPACITY150COST PER SQ FT$69.00FEATURED IN2017 Architectural PortfolioSUB CATEGORYCommunity Center/Joint Use leadership, and participate in premier activities and events. The single-story building is adjacent to the Girl Scout’s headquarters.
To engage young women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) industries, the center focuses on three programmatic areas: STEM, Health, and Money Management. Learning spaces include a science lab, a robotics lab, an open learning kitchen, and group/teaming spaces.
One of the biggest challenges was a minimal budget. Our team’s solutions used existing partitions and doors, negotiated discount pricing on finishes and fixtures on behalf of the Girl Scouts, maximized design impact with paint, worked closely with the general contractor on value engineering concepts, and discussed possibilities of shared restroom counts with code officials.
The space features vibrant pops of color, a seating kiva, suspended lighting, acoustical ceiling “clouds,” and a glass feature wall. The center is booked for the next year.
