The Cypress Park High School represents the future in high schools for the Cypress-Fairbanks district. Designed around the concept of small learning communities (SLC), the new high school is an active learning environment. Each learning community has classroom spaces, collaboration spaces, science labs and offices. Each SLC is aligned to one of the state’s new high school ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONFEATURED IN2017 Architectural Portfolio endorsements that afford students the opportunity to engage in diverse pathways.
The hinge point is conceptually the node of major activity. Academics, collaboration, and learning intertwine through a plethora of vertical and horizontal spaces. The high school’s dining commons is detached because it has been designed to house not only the high school population, but also middle and elementary students once additional schools are built in the educational village complex. The resulting space is a large community space that can be used by each school as well as the community.
