The Isabella McCosh Infirmary, constructed in 1925, was redesigned to create a full-service, state-of-the-art facility both operationally and perceptually. After visioning and programming sessions with principal stakeholders, EwingCole compiled a comprehensive space utilization study to determine the spaces necessary to support the clinical operation.

The redesign established an open, welcoming reception space with direct sightlines to most clinical areas and to the exterior. New ceilings remain open to maintain a sense of the significant height of the space, and to provide visibility of the building structure. Back-painted glass on multiple surfaces adds to the overall brightness of the spaces and creates a sense of openness and clarity. Fully enclosed glass cubicles provide privacy for first-time visitors, and multiple check-in kiosks enable students to confirm arrival and set up appointments.
The oak-paneled waiting room was restored to its original design, and is made available for casual meetings and study not exclusively related to Health Services.
