The Culinary and Allied Health building was designed as part of an effort to support new and expanded program offerings at Kalamazoo Valley Community College’s new Bronson Healthy Living Campus in downtown Kalamazoo. Within the three-level Culinary and Allied Health Building are kitchens, classrooms and instruction spaces to support the College’s Sustainable Food Systems curriculum. Food and Health Studies and Culinary Arts courses focus on integrating the best practices of agriculture with the latest developments in culinary and food production research and technology.
A community kitchen was incorporated for outreach classes, as well as a tiered classroom for large-scale demonstration cooking seminars. Additionally, a health-focused café and restaurant space are featured on the main level, overlooking a restored habitat along the adjacent Portage Creek. The upper level, showcased with floor to ceiling glass, includes a large instruction area for students pursuing a certificate in sustainable brewing.
