After a nine-year search, Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences (PCHS) found an ideal site to transform. A former office building and warehouse in Lancaster, Pa., became a state-of-the-art health sciences campus.
The president of PCHS challenged Stantec to make “every space a learning space” for its next generation of med/ed students.

The Emmett M. & Anne C. Cooper Building includes more than 1,000 classroom seats within 26 classrooms, a 450-seat auditorium, a 20,000-square foot simulation center, general science labs, a 14,500-square-foot learning commons, collaborative study spaces, a health/wellness/fitness center, a café, and faculty office suites.
The addition of skylights and windows to the two-story warehouse space, along with a bold color palette, energizes and engages students, faculty, and staff.
Informal collaborative spaces within the central commons were created to foster learning outside classrooms and appeal to a wide array of students, whether they prefer quiet, private spaces or areas that generate conversation and social engagement.
