The Center for Sport Sciences is a comprehensive indoor athletic training facility on the campus of Wilmington College, a private liberal arts institution. By consolidating spaces ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONCAPACITY387COST PER SQ FT$153.00CITATIONSports Stadiums/Athletic Facilities CitationFEATURED IN2016 Architectural PortfolioSUB CATEGORYSports Stadiums/Athletic Facilities to academic learning, athletic practices, athletic training rehabilitation, multipurpose functions, and faculty offices, the college provides a “one-stop shop” for athlete training and recovery. The inclusion of a leading regional sports medicine and orthopedics practice, a hospital medical imaging center, and a private physical rehabilitation practice provides under one roof a “complete” center for student athlete training, injury evaluation, treatment planning, and rehabilitation.
The facility will serve as the primary home for the nationally renowned Wilmington College Athletic Training program. It has a hydro training area, a recruitment room, a state-of-the-art classroom/lab space, administrative offices and an indoor synthetic turf field that opens up to an outdoor synthetic turf training field. As a Quaker institution, Wilmington College sought to have the aesthetic of the facility inspired by values of simplicity, austerity, and efficiency within a modern composition of simple materials, forms, and volumes.
