The Hive at MSU is a unique, new collaborative space for students. It is the product of a partnership among the colleges of Engineering, Communication Arts and Sciences, Business, and Residential and Hospitality Services. The Hive is a student-based business incubator environment within the Wilson Hall, a residential facility. The dynamic idea laboratory and adjacent classrooms, which can accommodate 462 people, boast 90 writable and display surfaces, open and private work areas, and a custom semi-circular tiered seating and counter area that supports larger gatherings or presentations. Collaboration is further supported with semi-private breakout areas, a larger Maker Space and semi-private small group rooms.
Dense and highly flexible power distribution provides maximum adaptability, and the space also features dynamic energy-efficient LED light fixtures. A variable air volume air handling unit with demand control ventilation conserves energy when spaces are not in use.
